Areas of Expertise

Management professor Susan Palmer is a program director in Executive Development. She teaches strategic human resource management and provides career coaching in the Executive MBA Program.

She has designed executive development programs for global companies such as John Deere, Monsanto, Novartis, Quintiles Transnational, Siemens and Xerox.

She also developed and manages strategic partnerships with the Society for Human Resource Management and the Center for Creative Leadership. Dr. Palmer consults on human resource issues in a variety of industries ranging from biotechnology to financial services. 

Before joining UNC Kenan-Flagler, she was a human resource executive at Wells Fargo and Prudential Financial. Her management responsibilities included company recruitment and selection, training and development, human resource research and human resource planning. She also developed and managed an internal consulting function delivering consulting services on strategic business initiatives related to acquisitions, organizational restructuring, operational efficiency, service quality and new product development.

She has held elected positions in the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, a division of the American Psychology Association, and has served on the editorial board of Personnel Psychology.

Dr. Palmer previously served as UNC Kenan-Flagler's director of corporate relations and interim director for MBA Career Services. She received her PhD from North Carolina State University and her BA from Mary Baldwin College.
