Merit Fellowships

Falls Prize
The Falls Prize is awarded to up to six outstanding MBA candidates who have been selected to receive fellowships to attend UNC Kenan-Flagler. Recipients of The Falls Prize will receive a $25,000 stipend over two years to supplement their fellowship award. Funded by Ralph Falls, Class of 1963, the prize honors applicants demonstrating strong leadership potential, superior academic and career achievement and a diversity of lifetime experiences. Ten to fifteen fellowship recipients will be invited to UNC Kenan-Flagler to interview for The Falls Prize.

There is also a Premier Fellows Program for select fellowship recipients by invitation only.

UNC Kenan-Flagler Fellowships

Each year we award fellowships based on the following criteria.
  • A superior record of achievement in academic and career settings
  • Diverse experiences
  • Strong leadership potential and interpersonal skills

The process is easy.

  • No need to apply
  • Complete application for admission by the January deadline to be automatically considered upon admission
  • Fellowship decisions mailed 7-10 days after decision release for each deadline
  • All students, international and domestic, considered for fellowships

The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management (CGSM)
  • For African-American, Hispanic American and Native American students, as well as other persons who can demonstrate a commitment to the Consortium’s mission
  • Fellowship support plus career development opportunities
  • Requires UNC Kenan-Flagler application plus CGSM application
    The Forte Foundation
      The Forte Foundation is an organization of top business schools and corporations whose mission is to increase the number of women in business. Each year, Forte Scholars are selected based on exemplary leadership and achievement. Scholars participate fully in the Forte Scholars programs. For more information on scholar benefits, please visit www.fortefoundation.org.
      No separate application is required to be considered as a UNC Forte Scholar.
    The Ron Brown Fellowship Program
  • Merit-based assistance for applicants from Albania, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia
  • Supports Master's degree study and a professional internship
  • Open, merit-based selection process carried out by U.S. embassies or Fulbright Commissions
  • Criteria: leadership skills, proficiency in English, high academic qualifications, professional experience and a commitment by the candidate to return to your home country at completion of the program

    Fellowships for International Students

    The Fulbright Program
  • International program funded by the United States Government
  • Active in 140 countries, including 51 countries with binational Fulbright Commissions and Foundations
  • Managed by private, cooperating organizations such as LASPAU, AMIDEAST, and IIE
    The Instituto Ling scholarship for Brazilian citizens
  • For Brazilian citizens with a letter of acceptance from a top business school and demonstrated financial need
  • Scholarship program with career follow-up
  • 37 scholarships granted since its founding, an investment of US $580000
    The Edmund S. Muskie/Freedom Support Act (FSA) Graduate Fellowship Program
  • For citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Jajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine or Uzbekistan
  • Supports graduate study at the master's level in the United States
  • Administered by the American Councils for International Education and the Soros Foundations/Open Society Institute
    German Academic Exchange Service
    (DAAD)
  • Fellowship jointly awarded by UNC Kenan-Flagler and DAAD to 1 admitted German student per year
  • Requires direct application to DAAD and award of a DAAD fellowship for MBA study in the United States
  • Deadline for DAAD application: early summer
  • Requires UNC Kenan-Flagler application plus DAAD application
