Stephen Rich (BSBA ’64) retired from The
Coca-Cola Company in 2000 after 30 years, the last three years on
contract in Paris working on involvement by Coca-Cola with World Cup
’98. He moved to Chapel Hill in December 2003 and is serving on the
Chapel Hill Historic District Commission and volunteering at the
Coker Arboretum.
Roy O. Rodwell (MBA ’64) has been
running a ranch in Wyoming since his semi-retirement in 2000.
1965
Worth M. Helms (BSBA ’65, MBA ’71) has
started a coffee farm in Uganda to create jobs and self-sustaining
income for an Anglican Diocese. His wife, Janet, performed her
dramatic musical, “Lord, Make Me the Woman You Want Me to Be,” for
an audience of 1,200 in Hoima, Uganda, in May 2004.
Jim McIntyre (BSBA ’65) and his wife,
Julie, purchased the Greenleaf Inn of Camden in Camden, S.C., in
March 2003. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1994 and
spending five years with a commercial airline, Jim attended culinary
school at the Art Institute of Dallas. McIntyre has recently been
elected to the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce and the board of
the Fine Arts Center.
1966
Lewis Whitehead (BSBA ’66), plant
controller, reports that West Pharmaceutical Services just opened
its new plant on U.S. 70 in Kinston, N.C. This plant replaces the
plant that suffered an explosion on Jan. 29, 2003, resulting in the
deaths of six people, of which four were West employees. The plant
will employ approximately 210 people when it gets back into full
operation.
1967
Horace Johnson (BSBA ’67) retired as
office managing partner of the Ernst & Young Raleigh office on June
30, 2004. He served in that capacity since 1987 and was a 37-year
veteran of Ernst & Young.
Michael S. Wilkins (BSBA ’67) was
appointed by Gov. Mike Easley to an eight-year term as a
commissioner on the N.C. Utilities commission in January 2002.

Richard B. Hurley (BSBA ’68) was
recognized recently with the Lifetime Achievement Award for
community service by the United Way of Asheville, N.C., and Buncombe

Tom Moser (BSBA ’69) has been named to
the new position of vice chairman-industries at KPMG LLP. He will
lead the firm’s industry sector services and initiatives and will
serve in the newly formed Office of the Chairman.
1970
Peter E. Berg (BSBA ’70) reports that
his son, PJ, will be starting his freshman year at Columbia
University, and his granddaughter, Caroline, is off to nursery
school. Berg is in his second year as executive director of the
Greenwich (CT) Land Trust.
1971
Barry Boyd (BSBA ’71) founded along with
three other partners, International Legwear Group, a sock company
based in Winston-Salem, N.C. He had previously been with the Sara

Carol Stoak Saunders (MBA ’72) has been
selected to serve as the editor-in-chief of MIS Quarterly, a leading
information systems journal.
Roger Timm (BSBA ’72) is executive vice
president of Vigo Remittance Corp. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Vigo is
the third largest consumer money transfer company worldwide.

Richard Berkowitz (BSBA ’73) was elected
president-elect of the Florida Institute of Certified Public
Accountants and was honored at the 2004 Ultimate CEO Awards Program
on June 24, 2004. The Ultimate CEO Awards was created by the South
Florida Business Journal and THE COLLECTION to recognize the
leadership, integrity and perseverance of the top CEOs in Miami-Dade
County.
Gary Roberts (BSBA ’73) has been working
in global trade compliance for the past 20 years, is a licensed
customhouse broker and a certified purchasing manager. He is
currently seeking a position in North Carolina.

position as project manager at Arsenal Digital Solutions in Cary,

Steve Krasnow (MBA ’75) reports that his
wife, Rose, is now director of the United Way for Montgomery County,
Md.; his son, Kevin, graduated with a double major in journalism and
political science from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2003; and his daughter,
Kimberly, is a member of the UNC Class of 2005 with a double major
in French and sociology. The Krasnows are members of the executive
committee of the UNC Parents’ Council and own a second home in
Chapel Hill.
William E. Latta (MBA ’75) is vice
president of marketing and member benefits for AAA Auto Club South,
the third largest AAA Club in the United States, serving over 3.7
million AAA members in Florida, Georgia and the western two-thirds
of Tennessee.

Tony C. Dillingham (BSBA ’78) opened his

Patty McCaffrey Dorroh (BSBA ’79)
retired from the Marine Corps Reserve as a colonel on Aug. 1, 2004.
Mary Anne Dixon Hubbard (BSBA ’79)
opened a franchise of Aussie Pet Mobile, providing mobile pet
grooming (dogs and cats) in the Triangle, N.C., area. Aussie Pet
Mobile is one of the fastest-growing franchises in the country, and
her franchise was No. 10 in customers served in April/May.
Elizabeth Fuller “Liz” Poole (BSBA ’79)
was elected chairperson of the Cabarrus County board of education in
December 2003. She has served on the board for six years.

Lisa Cherry (BSBA ’80) opened a
commercial real estate firm in Charlotte, N.C. Cherry & Associates
specializes in tenant representation.
1981
Glenn Howell (MBA ’81) is president of
Mill Source Capital in Raleigh, N.C. Mill Source Capital is a real
estate investment firm specializing in contaminated commercial and
industrial properties.
Ann Moss Joyner (MBA ’81) and her
husband have formed a new nonprofit organization, the Cedar Grove
Institute for Sustainable Communities. The company provides research
and education services to other nonprofits, lawyers and governments
looking at institutionalized discrimination, civil rights and
environmental justice. They are collaborating with the Kenan
Institute’s Urban Investment Strategies Center and the UNC Law
School’s Civil Rights Center.
Bob Lunn (PhD ’81) is professor of
management and director of the Master of Health Administration (MHA)
program in the College of Business Administration at Southwest
Missouri State University (SMSU) in Springfield, Mo. Following a
23-year career as a health care executive, Lunn returned to
academics to start the SMSU MHA program in 1999. While at SMSU, he
has received several teaching awards, the inaugural outstanding
graduate mentor award and a 2003 best paper award.

William “Bill” Foster Brannon Jr. (BSBA
’82) of Norwalk, Conn., has been named director, client services, of
Greenfield Consulting Group, a marketing research firm in Westport,
Conn.
Tom Cawley (MBA ’82) joined Arrangements
Abroad Inc. as chief operating officer in April 2004 after nearly 20
years of managing distressed and bankrupt businesses. Arrangements
Abroad provides high quality educational and cultural tours in
foreign countries for universities, museums and other not-for-profit
institutions.
Lori Collins (BSBA ’82) is senior vice
president and general manager of the Lender Network for LendingTree,
which was recently acquired by Barry Diller’s InterActive Corp.
Collins was one of five finalists for Charlotte, N.C., Business
Woman of the Year. In June 2004, she and her fiancé traveled to
Morocco to work in an orphanage on a mission trip.
Daniel E. Garner (MBA-JD ’82) and his
wife, Cheryl, recently celebrated the graduation of their twin sons,
Jonathan and Benjamin, from UNC-Chapel Hill. From Garner,
“Classmates from 1982 may recall that Will Bernard won the pool
guessing the birth date of the twins (June 2, 1982).” Garner serves
as executive counsel to the N.C. Commissioner of Banks in Raleigh,
N.C.

Terry M. Ball (BSBA ’83) set up her own
business under T M Ball Inc. for contract CFO services for real
estate companies. She left her position as CFO of Brown Investment
Properties after 23 years and will use that experience to assist

Andrew Boynton (MBA ’84, PhD ’88) was
named dean of the Carroll School of Management at Boston College
University in May 2004 and will assume his post on Jan. 1, 2005.
Boynton had previously been a professor at the Darden School and UNC

well as the founder and director of the Executive MBA Program at the

Rebecca Butts Pezzoni (BSBA ’85) has
been head of U.S. Document Management for GlaxoSmithKline in

Sharon Wells Whitley (BSBA ’85) was
named a certified internal auditor by the Institute of Internal

moved to Mount Pleasant, S.C., and works for Medrad, a medical
device maker, as the Southeast operations manager. He has a

Greg Goyne (MBA ’88) was promoted to
principal with The Richards Group, the largest independent branding
agency in the United States.
Gil Roberts (MBA ’88) has been named
vice president for Spalding’s European and Asian licensing business,
based in Ireland. He is responsible for maintaining and developing
relationships with licensees and growing the business outside the
United States.

Carolyn L. Costley (PhD ’89) has been
promoted to associate professor of marketing at the Waikato
Management School in Hamilton, New Zealand. She also is the school’s
convener for research ethics, which means that she supervises the

family relocated back to the Washington, D.C., area, in April 2003.
She now lends to rural electric utilities as an associate vice
president for National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corp. in

Wade H. “Hank” McSwain (BSBA ’89)
relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in December 2003 with his wife,
Diane, to take a new position as a compliance risk manager for Bank
of America. McSwain also is a lieutenant commander in the Naval
Reserve and was mobilized in February 2003 for four months to
support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Randy Pilkenton (MBA ’89) was promoted
to senior vice president, product management and marketing, with
CheckFree Corp., located in Norcross, Ga. CheckFree is the largest
provider of online consumer bill payment in the United States.
M. Gray Styers (MBA-JD ’89) moved his
law practice to a new firm, Blanchard, Jenkins, Miller, Lewis &
Styers P.A., whose new offices are in a 1908 house on Hillsborough
Street in Raleigh, N.C. Gray will continue to concentrate his law

Mari Dieterich Tolliver (MBA ’91) is a
foreign service officer assigned to the U.S. Embassy in La Paz,

drug interdiction and drug prevention in Bolivia. She lives in La
Paz with her husband, Morgan (whom she met while they were both

Ken Arteaga (MBA ’95) is a lieutenant
colonel in the U.S. Air Force. For the last two years, he commanded
the Air Force’s only undergraduate helicopter training squadron.
Graduates go on to fly special operations, combat rescue and
homeland defense missions. In 2003, his squadron was named the Air
Force’s Flying Training Squadron of the Year. He relinquished his
command on June 23, 2004, and has moved to a staff position in San

Bruce Capehart (EMBA ’96) deployed
overseas to Afghanistan and Uzbekistan with the U.S. Army as part of
Operation Enduring Freedom. He served as the sole psychiatrist for
more than 10,000 U.S. and Coalition forces. In between running his
outpatient clinic for soldiers, he accompanied a Special Operations
forces team to provide health care for local Afghani people. He
writes that it was quite an adventure, but it’s better to be back
home in North Carolina with his wife and two daughters. He is
currently working as a forensic psychiatrist with the U.S.
Department of Justice.

Valerie Cook (MBA ’02) and Mark Smith
(MBA ’02) are engaged. They are living and working in Houston,
Texas. Smith works for ExxonMobil and Cook works for the Houston
Advanced Research Center.
Brad Cox (BSBA ’02) graduated from the
master’s program in higher education administration at the
University of South Carolina in August 2004. He also started a new
position in June 2004 as coordinator of research and public
information at the National Resource Center for the First-Year
Experience and Students in Transition in Columbia, S.C. He is
engaged to marry Sarah Dietz in June 2005.
Ken Epps (MBA ’02) began a rotation in
supply-chain management with the Defense Logistics Agency in July
after working for two years at the Pentagon.
Sabrina Gatlin (MBA ’02) enjoys working
at Coca-Cola where she is an assistant brand manager on the Dasani
brand. She also is assigned to the Lance Armstrong account, where
her duties have included riding alongside Armstrong in benefit races
and hanging out with Armstrong and his girlfriend, Sheryl Crow.
During the summer months, Gatlin was in France with Armstrong during
the Tour de France.
Crystal German (MBA ’02) has been
promoted to director of finance for the N.C. Minority Business
Development Center, an initiative sponsored by the Minority Business
Development Agency (department of Commerce). She will be responsible
for structuring and securing financing for minority firms with gross
receipts of $500,000 or more.
Tony Gorski (MBA ’02) and Jennifer
Roberts are engaged to be married in both Paris and Charleston,
S.C., in May 2005. Gorski is the chief operating officer and partner
of JCIT International in Englewood, Colo. Since JCIT’s recent
partnership with PeopleSoft, Gorski has been the keynote speaker at
multiple conferences in Asia, Europe and Australia.
Mike Holmes (MBA ’02) and his wife,
Alison, moved to Rochester, N.Y., where Alison will continue her
pediatrics training and Holmes will continue with IBM in software
marketing.
Chris Keber (EMBA ’02) was mentioned in
the May 7, 2004, edition of The Charlotte Business Journal. Chris
was noted for being the Bush-Cheney campaign’s only North Carolina
“maverick” — someone under 40 who has raised more than $50,000 for
the president’s re-election campaign. Keber was pictured shaking
hands with Vice President Dick Cheney.
Kristen Martin (MBA ’02) moved from New
Jersey (where she worked for Johnson & Johnson) to California, where
her husband, Wayne, works with Aerospace Corp. in El Segundo.
Steve Moore (BSBA ’02) was accepted into
the Director’s Guild Assistant Director Training Program. Every year
there are between 1,000 to 1,200 applicants for 15 to 20 spots in
the program. For the next two years, he’ll be placed on a new show
every three months while working under the supervision of the
assistant directors. At the end of the two years, he will be invited
to join the Guild and be qualified to work as a second assistant
director.

appointed director of operations for the Hillel Center at George
Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Jose Naranjo (MBA ’02) has moved to a
product manager position within GlaxoSmithKline.
Grace Poh (MBA ’02) has moved to Hong
Kong with her husband and is working for Goldman Sachs in the
technology division.
Brooke Ransom (MBA ’02) recently moved
to Atlanta, Ga., where she works for Robert Harris Homes as a
business analyst and in investor relations.
Frank Reese (MBA ’02) and his wife,
Loulie, have relocated to Atlanta, Ga., where he now works with the
Novare Group, a real estate development firm.
Charis Simms (MBA ’02) is working with
BellSouth in Atlanta, Ga., in the international division, managing
the implementation of new cell phone models.
Hilary Sonstegard (MBA ’02) and her
husband, Nate, are enjoying their second year living in Zurich,
Switzerland. She is working for a small investment firm focused on
private equity. They plan to stay in Switzerland for at least
a few more years and welcome visitors.

promotion/transfer within Progress Energy in October from Pinehurst
to Cary, N.C.
Will Wick (MBA ’02) and his wife, Wanda,
are now living in Charlotte, N.C., after a year stint in New York
City, N.Y. Wick is a vice president in the strategic initiatives
group within consumer real estate at Bank of America.
