UNC Kenan-Flagler Seeks New Dean

The search for a new dean at UNC Kenan-Flagler is well under way as the School seeks someone to continue the upward trajectory of its top-ranked programs. It is a momentous time for the School, which is poised for greater recognition through innovation in curriculum and research and through its initiatives with the North Carolina and global business communities. The University's Carolina First Campaign, of which UNC Kenan-Flagler is a significant partner, provides an unparalleled opportunity to significantly increase private funding.

Interim Dean Julie H. Collins is leading the School while a University-appointed committee is spearheading the search to replace Robert Sullivan, who left at the end of his five-year term in December to found a business school at the University of California at San Diego. Collins was senior associate dean of academic affairs for five years and has been instrumental in all the School's strategic initiatives. She has appointed Valarie Zeithaml to assume her former position leading faculty and academic programs as senior associate dean of academic affairs.

The search committee, headed by William O. McCoy and made up of faculty, staff, students and alumni, is seeking a new dean with demonstrated ability to broaden the School's ties with policy-makers and corporate partners worldwide and within North Carolina.

McCoy is a member of UNC Kenan-Flagler's board of visitors. A devoted and loyal alumnus of UNC and the business school, he served as interim chancellor of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from July 1999 to August 2000. McCoy was vice president for finance of the 16-campus University of North Carolina system, following a 35-year career with BellSouth Corp., where he retired as vice chairman of the board.

The committee has selected Korn/Ferry International to assist with the search for the School's new dean and began its review of early candidates in February. Helpful input provided by alumni and friends of the School has already been instrumental to the progress of the search. The committee continues to invite this assistance and input. Applications may be sent to Monisha Kaplan, client partner, Education Practice (202 955-0933, monisha.kaplan@kornferry.com). The application should include a resume and a letter explaining relevant experience to the attention of William O. McCoy, chair of the Dean Search Committee, c/o John Kuhnle, senior client partner, Korn/Ferry International. Information about the position and the search committee is posted on the UNC Kenan-Flagler (http://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/dean/) and University Web sites.
