MAC Students Visit Central Europe

Master of Accounting (MAC) students visited Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Prague last fall as part of a nine-day global immersion course on key international accounting issues.

Led by MAC Program Associate Dean Doug Shackelford, the students visited European firms such as Andersen, Deutsche Bank, DaimlerChrysler and Deloitte & Touche. Kenan-Flagler has a number of global immersion electives, offered through the School's Office of International Programs, that provide students with an opportunity to engage in short-term, experiential learning abroad for academic credit.

"One of the biggest take-aways from the trip was getting an international perspective on many of the same issues we are studying in class: auditing, mergers and acquisitions, and business tax strategy," said MAC student Casey Black (far right). "A course on the German tax system and current tax reform could easily have been taught in a classroom setting, but hearing the message directly from European corporate leaders who are affected by this system made everything seem more applicable to the real world."
