International Studies Get $1.4 Million Boost
Kenan-Flagler's Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) received a four-year, $1.4 million renewal grant from the U.S. Department
of Education. Kenan-Flagler's proposal was scored among the highest of the 40 schools that applied. CIBER schools were created to link the needs of businesses with the international education, language training and capabilities
of U.S. universities.
Examples of innovative activities in Kenan-Flagler's CIBER include:
- Strategic global partnerships: CIBER is assisting with curriculum development for the OneMBA Program (www.onemba.org), offered in alliance with four top international business schools, and course creation for the new BSBA Global Scholars Program. The Global Scholars Program will bring U.S. and international students to study and reside together at UNC-Chapel Hill in special living/learning communities.
- Global supply-chain management: CIBER will create a virtual learning laboratory to explore the complex world of global logistics.
- Sustainability: CIBER will develop a new course in corporate social responsibility and an immersion practicum, among other activities.
- International finance and tax: CIBER will help extend the reach of international tax, accounting and finance research and host two international conferences.
- Working Mandarin: In 2005, CIBER and the N.C. Global Center will create Working Mandarin, an immersion language course similar to the Global Center's successful Working Spanish course.
