Carter Garrison, VP of Events for our Real Estate Club just returned from NYC and reported that twenty-one real estate concentrators gathered in New York for a Career Trek on October 18th and 19th to meet with Kenan-Flagler alums and potential employers. The group, made up of mostly 1st year students, met with real estate leaders at Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Asset Management, Westbrook Partners, BlackRock, Eastdil Secured, and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The students were exposed to all types of real estate investment: public and private, debt and equity, enterprise-level and asset-level. A broad range of topics affecting the current market were discussed, including the gradual increase in CMBS issuance, the housing resurgence, and the increasingly creative usage of the REIT structure.
Another highlight was the after-hours gathering on the 18th at The Long Room in Times Square. The event was attended by all of the students, more than 20 real estate alums, Prof. Dave Hartzell, and even a couple of prospective students. The event showcased the strength of the UNC Real Estate brand, and the level of commitment from the alumni network.
Special thanks to the Center for Real Estate Development
, Jim Spaeth of the Career Management Center, and everyone who helped make this trip possible, especially the alums that took time out of their busy schedules to present to the group. The next Career Trek will be in early March in Washington, DC.
