Brent Lane, director of the Kenan Institute’s Carolina Center for Competitive Economies, was appointed by the N.C. General Assembly to a three-year term on the N.C. Department of Revenue Oversight Committee.
The committee operates under the direction of the State Budget Director, reviewing and approving the benefits measurement methodology and calculation process for the N.C. Department of Revenue. It also reviews and approves all contracts, amendments and addendums before they are executed.
Lane brings three decades of experience in state and regional government and in nonprofit work supporting targeted economic development initiatives, including evaluating the state’s business recruitment incentives programs.
His expertise and research interests focus on the roles of technological innovation and emerging industry financing in economic competitiveness, venture capital, research commercialization and entrepreneurial development.
Lane has created and directed numerous innovative economic ventures, ranging from a seminal seed capital investment fund to the first technology incubator in The Research Triangle Park to the design and launch of the largest community development venture capital fund in the United States.
