UNC Kenan-Flagler Hosts Alternative Investments Conference

2/17/2011

The University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School will host the fourth annual Alternative Investments Conference (AIC), titled “Dawn of a New Era,” Feb. 16 at the Carolina Club.

The AIC is organized by student members of UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Private Equity/Venture Capital (PE/VC) Club. The event attracts private equity, hedge fund and real estate professionals from around the United States. Its purpose is to discuss current trends, strategies and challenges in alternative investments with industry leaders.

The conference will feature two keynote speakers:

  • Lee Ainslie, founder and managing partner of Maverick Capital and 1990 graduate of UNC Kenan-Flagler’s MBA Program
  • Glenn Hutchins, founder and CEO of Silver Lake
  • “Mr. Ainslie and Mr. Hutchins are well positioned to provide important insights about key developments in the alternative investments industry, particularly in light of the recent turmoil in the financial markets,” said Brad Hudson (MBA ’11), conference organizer and PE/VC Club president.

The AIC will include four panel discussions:

    • Private Equity: Enhancing Value Through Operating Results
    • Venture Capital: The Next Generation of Venture Capital
    • Hedge Fund: Macro Strategies to Drive Alpha
    •  Real Estate: Challenges and Opportunities in a New Environment

Proceeds from the AIC will be used for the Alternative Investments Fellowship program, which helps facilitate and fund internships for a select group of UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA students at the country’s top private equity and hedge funds.
