Real Estate Career Day

Ed Fritsch (BSBA 1981), CEO of Highwoods Properties

On August 27, several successful real estate professionals, including three Kenan-Flagler alumni, participated in the MBA Career Conference, which featured speakers and panelists from a number of industries who spoke with students about a variety of post-MBA career opportunities. The Real Estate Club organized two well-attended events that introduced students to a number of career paths within the real estate industry.

Career Day

During lunch, Dave Hartzell moderated a panel discussion featuring three experienced industry participants - Jeff Sheehan, Senior Vice President, Raleigh Operations at Duke Realty (MBA 2000); Croft Young, Real Estate Investment Banking Associate at Morgan Stanley (MBA 2009) and Terry Wolfram, Managing Director at Anka Funds - who spoke about their backgrounds and current roles and also provided advice for students interested in pursuing a career in real estate.

The second real estate event, a presentation by Ed Fritsch, President, CEO and Director of Highwoods Properties (BSBA 1981), was the highlight of the day according to many students. Mr. Fritsch's presentation on "How to Succeed in Real Estate" included humorous anecdotes about his career, advice for the (numerous) future real estate leaders in attendance and a basketball shooting exercise (meant to highlight the importance that clear goals have on execution) that would have made even Roy Williams proud.
