For the past 5 years, 95% to 100% of every graduating MAC class has had offers of full-time employment in accounting by the end of the summer.

Curriculum

The Master of Accounting Program starts in May. Accounting and business courses are combined so students can explore topics and apply skills from a range of viewpoints. View a complete course listing and the academic calendar.

Required accounting courses provide in-depth study of:

  • Financial accounting
  • Managerial accounting
  • Auditing
  • Assurance
  • Taxation

The courses are taught in a way that improves your communication and decision-making skills.

Students pick elective courses that are in their chosen area of specialty (auditing and assurance, or taxation). See degree requirements for more details.

One-year Accounting Degree

In only 1 year, May to May, the Master of Accounting Program prepares you with the skills and credentials that make you highly marketable in the business world. Both business and liberal arts graduates benefit from our program. You will develop your business, accounting, communication and leadership skills. The integrated setting prepares you to make an immediate contribution to the employer that hires you. MAC students that graduate from UNC are recruited by prestigious employers. The 12 month program attracts top-notch students.

MAC Prerequisites

Non-Accounting Majors are Eligible
The Master of Accounting Program is for people with little or no previous accounting education.

  • You cannot have more than 12.0 credit hours of prior accounting course work.
  • If you exceed this limit, you are not eligible for admission.

Prerequisites & Work Experience
Prerequisite courses are not required to enter the Master of Accounting Program. You may want to take an introductory accounting course prior to the start of the Program. Other classes that will be helpful are microeconomics and business statistics.

Employment Statistics
Master of Accounting students that graduate from UNC are recruited by prestigious employers in public as well as corporate accounting.
