Leadership Days
Leadership Days are special program-wide events.
No classes are held so everyone can attend Leadership Days. You will select from a wide range of interactive workshops with leadership consultants and UNC Kenan-Flagler faculty. You can also meet with successful entrepreneurs and senior Fortune 500 executives as they share their personal leadership successes and challenges.
Here is a sample of some of the activities you may experience during a Leadership Day.
Diagnosing & Leading Change
Using a computer-based simulation, you and your colleagues will be placed in the role of consultants to a struggling high tech firm. Your task will be to effectively diagnose the core problem, develop a change of plan for transforming the organization, and implement this plan as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Mt. Everest Leadership & Team Simulation
This computer-based simulation (based upon a true story) involves a challenging expedition toward the summit of Mt. Everest. You will assume one of five different roles on an assigned team. The learning objectives of this simulation include:
- Learn how to build, participate in, and lead teams more effectively
- Learn how teams can solve problems and make decisions more effectively in difficult situations when members have different information and opposing interests
- Examine how teams can improve the way they make decisions
- Explore how different leadership approaches can affect team performance in situations with time and competitive pressures
- Examine how teams and their leaders deal with potential tradeoffs between short-term task completion and longer-term team effectiveness
Sharpening Your Global Edge: Insights into Leading Global Teams
In today’s global economy, you must be prepared to lead team members representing diverse national cultures. This session, led by global leadership experts, provides you with the chance to evaluate and refine your global communication skills using a model developed by Richard Lewis, author of When Cultures Collide.
Leading the Impossible
During this interactive workshop, you and your team will be given the challenge to complete an apparently unsolvable task. You will use all your skills to make the impossible possible, while gaining valuable lessons in leading a team of peers to complete complex tasks.
