Dynamic Resource Management for Aviation Spare/Repair Parts
The PILOT (Prognostics-Integrated Logistics) project is a consortium of universities, aerospace
manufacturing companies, and airlines that have aligned to engage in collaborative research and
development activities to achieve significant improvements in the provisioning of aviation services,
specifically the provisioning of assets in response to or in anticipation of system failure.
PILOT's goal is to achieve improvements in asset management through the conduct of research and
development activities that promote intelligent technologies, including prognostics and
intelligent software, in activities such as aircraft health monitoring, maintenance planning,
logistics support, and others. PILOT research topics include: economics of prognostics adoption;
command and control of network operations; condition-based maintenance; "virtual" inventories;
and dynamic resource management. The PILOT group currently includes academic institutions
(University of North Carolina-US, ITESM-Mexico, Warwick University-UK, Delft University of
Science and Technology-NE); aerospace companies (The Boeing Company, General Electric); and
airlines (Delta, Aeromexico, KLM, and British Midlands)
