Striving to elevate North Carolina as a global leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Kenan Institute
works with key partners in the business community to create lasting economic impact ranging from projects with real outcomes to industry forums and research. Companies collaborate with us through these initiatives:
This resource for all UNC-CH entrepreneurial activities provides a full range of assistance to transform innovative ideas into technology driven products. Business partners serve as mentors and advisors to these interdisciplinary groups, along with inventors, faculty, and students. We also look to the business community as a source of funding for UNC-CH research and commercialization.
America has a love affair with sport. The business of sport plays an important economic role in our region and our state–a $350+ billion national enterprise. We welcome partnership (instructors, internships, pitch judges or advisors) with companies interested in helping Kenan Institute Sport achieve its mission. Our primary projects are:
- An inventory of North Carolina sport-related companies to connect and accelerate people to data, products and services, and jobs.
- A Sport Analytics Summit (TBD 2014) to foster collaboration between students, faculty, staff, and sport professionals working with big data and analytics. This summit will focus on the business of sport (rather than individual athlete performance) including the return on investment of marketing activities and the economic impact of sporting events.
The Institute works with regional business, community and academic leaders to accelerate economic growth and create jobs through innovative business development strategies. In 2012 we launched this effort in an economically distressed 18-county region of eastern North Carolina with a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
