Paul F. Wedel is president and executive director of Kenan Institute Asia (K.I. Asia), the Kenan Institute affiliate based in Bangkok, Thailand, that he helped found in 1996.
Under his direction, K.I. Asia brings together the resources and skills of the private sector, governments, and universities to promote sustainable partnerships for economic development in Asia.
K.I. Asia programs focus primarily on better business practices, environmental management, human resource development, and development partnerships between the United States and Thailand.
Wedel brings more than thirty years of experience working in Asia as a business consultant, manager, educator, and journalist. He first came to Asia as a Peace Corps volunteer living and teaching in southern Thailand. Later, he directed a Thai government program for educational television.
After receiving a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University, Wedel returned to Asia with United Press International. He spent fifteen years in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and India working in a variety of management positions, including regional manager for Southeast Asia. Before joining the institute, he worked as associate director and business consultant for the PacRim Consulting Group in Singapore, providing strategy and change-management advisory services to multinational corporations in Asia.
