Urban Investment Strategies Center initiatives translates the center’s knowledge of what works and into innovative demonstration projects, models for helping communities and people become more globally competitive and prosperous.
Among its initiatives are:
- Urban Sustainable Model– working with America’s economically distressed communities to promote entrepreneurial and market-based solutions for poverty alleviation, job creation and community development.
- Global Scholars Academy– a N.C. charter school developed with community leaders in northeast-central Durham, N.C., to develop a model school for preparing inner-city children for the global economy.
- Minority Males in Higher Education- a W.K. Kellogg Foundation-funded project to develop a national model for increasing college access and success among African American males.
- Saturday College Preparatory Academy– an academic and soft-skills enrichment program for male African American high school juniors and seniors who aspire to attend four-year colleges and universities.
