Biography

Randy Myer teaches Business Plan Development, a required MBA course, and an entrepreneurial marketing elective.

Before he joined UNC Kenan-Flagler, he was the COO for Lindblad Expeditions, where he had line responsibility for the $60 million family business that specializes in the adventure travel market. He led a reorganization of the company and was responsible for the development of new management systems. He also upgraded and added new customer services, which led Travel and Leisure magazine to rate Lindblad as the sixth best travel operator in the world in 2000.

Professor Myer is the founder of Best Friends Pet Care, a national chain of high-quality pet services facilities. He raised $3 million in seed capital to launch his idea, completed three additional rounds of successful financings and built it into a $30 million chain with over 55 U.S. locations. He sold his interest in the company in the mid-1990s to outside investors.

For 13 years he was a partner with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, specializing in the consumer product and services industries and leading assignments in customer service, marketing and operations strategy. Early in his career, he worked for Spalding Sporting Goods as director of manufacturing for one of its divisions and for IBM as a sales representative.

He received his MBA from Harvard University and his BA from UNC-Chapel Hill.
