Research, teaching and impact on business
Brews is a serious student of the global economy. He focuses on how the "twin shocks" of globalization and the Internet are changing the ways that companies conduct business and compete with each other. MBA students, he says, leave his classes with "a changed view of globalization and what it will take to remain competitive in the global economy of the early 21st century."
He is also an expert on corporate strategy. Brews has studied mergers and acquisitions and their impact on what companies do. Recently, his research has focused on the new breed of "Internet Generation" firms. His work offers insights into what he sees "emerging as the dominant form of organization" in the business world. Brews looks at how globalization and the shift to post-industrial competition are changing the nature of organizations and human work. He says his Executive Education clients have used his ideas "to change the path and trajectory of their organizations."
What makes the UNC Kenan-Flagler student experience special
"Students here are bright and entrepreneurial and bring a broad range of views and experiences to classroom discussions. They are very supportive of one another as a learning community."
Something personal
Brews likes to run and work out in the gym when he's not teaching. He also likes strumming his guitar and listening to music.
