Merrill MasonHe teaches “Legal Issues for Startups” at UNC Kenan-Flagler.
He is a partner in the law firm, Smith Anderson.
With extensive experience representing technology and life sciences companies, Mason focuses his practice on venture capital, securities, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property and general corporate matters. He represents companies at all stages of development with particular emphasis on emerging and entrepreneurial enterprises. Mason co-founded Triangle-based Hutchison + Mason in 1996. His leadership helped the firm grow to 20 lawyers specializing in meeting the general corporate needs of technology and life sciences companies.
His affiliations include the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, where he has served on the board of directors and executive committee. His professional honors include recognition on Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite as a top corporate lawyer.
He received his JD and BA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
