John Durrett is the lead faculty member for the MBA Consulting Concentration at UNC Kenan-Flagler.
He is a director emeritus of McKinsey & Co. Inc. He retired in 2007 after a 26-year career with the firm. He served in numerous leadership roles with McKinsey, including managing director of both the Atlanta and the West Coast (Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, San Francisco and Seattle) offices; chairman of the finance committee; member of the committees that evaluate principals and directors of the firm; and member of the Shareholder's Council (McKinsey's elected board of directors).
Mr. Durrett consulted to the top management of firms in healthcare, financial services and basic materials on strategy, organization and large scale performance improvement initiatives.
Since his retirement from McKinsey, he has served as an advisor to Serent Capital, a private equity firm, and as a member of the board of three of its portfolio companies. He also served as a member of the board of Ally Financial, having been appointed by the U.S. Treasury in 2011.
Mr. Durrett is a faculty member for leadership programs at McKinsey.
He has served as a consultant to numerous non-profit organizations and as a board member of several, including Millsaps College, The Nature Conservancy of Georgia and The Music Society of Los Angeles.
He received his JD from Emory University, his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his BA from Millsaps College.
