Horace McCormick, Jr. serves as a Program Director of Executive Development at the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School. Horace has 15 years executive human resources and talent management experience in global fortune 200 organizations. He has designed executive development and learning strategies at all organizational levels and has developed senior leaders in Europe, Asia, North and Central America.
Prior to joining the executive development team at UNC, Horace was Vice President Human Resources at Fidelity Investments. While at Fidelity, Horace provided leadership on many talent management initiatives including innovative ways to segment and align critical talent to high impact critical roles. Horace was also a member of Fidelity’s global coaching team responsible for improving executive bench-strength in Asia. At Progress Energy, Horace was head of enterprise talent management including learning and development, workforce strategy, engagement, performance management, talent acquisition, diversity, and inclusion. During the merger between Duke Energy and Progress Energy, he was the integration co-lead and responsible for the redesign of human resources and corporate communications. Horace worked for Michelin Tire Corporation in international roles in human resources, marketing, and sales. He managed Michelin’s learning and development center and served as head of career management for Michelin’s commercial business. Horace led a financial turn-around as head of commercial sales for Michelin’s company-owned stores by focusing on the accelerated development of sales leaders. Horace was also a global account executive for Michelin and managed relationships with global clients such as Caterpillar. Horace served with the Chairman of Michelin as a member of the corporate diversity council.
After graduating from East Carolina University with a B.A. in Writing, Horace served in the Army as an Intelligence Officer. He earned his M.B.A. from the University of Dallas. Horace is certified as a senior human resources professional, executive coach, and human capital strategist. He provides thought leadership on how to improve organizational capability, organizational design and change management, leading across cultures, and leadership communication.
As a community leader, Horace volunteers his time by offering pro-bono coaching to executives of non-profit organizations that contribute to the quality of life for the poor. He enjoys biking, fishing, writing, and learning about other cultures. Horace and his wife, Sara, have three children, Maya, Austin, and Jonathan. Jonathan is a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and is attending graduate school at UNC Pembroke.
