Frequently Asked Questions
What is the value of ExperienceBase™
ExperienceBase helps executives reflect on and learn from their experiences as well as learn from others. As a result, they accelerate their development as leaders and learn about the experiences that perhaps they have not encountered yet in their current position. This can provide sound information and enable an executive to quickly learn from others’ experiences where otherwise, key learnings might not be shared.
Can I get a more in-depth explanation of ExperienceBase?
Please review the white paper, Learning from Experience: The Missing Link in Executive Development [PDF: 59K] by James W. Dean Jr. and Jim Stanley. Or contact us and we can have a conversation specific to your needs and challenges you face.
How long does it take to enter an experience into the database?
It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to enter information in the database.
How often do people enter experiences?
It is up to each company, but participants enter experiences about once a week. The hope is that executives will have a least one substantial learning experience each week. The more that is shared, the better the tool becomes to all who use it.
How long are software licenses available?
We generally offer licenses to organizations for a period of one year. However, we can offer longer license periods. Please contact us to find out more information.
How much does a license cost?
The cost depends on a number of factors, including:
- How many users
- What level of support is needed
- Whether the software is being used in an executive development program at
UNC
Can the software be used in both custom experience and open enrollment programs?
Yes, there are many facets to ExperienceBase that make it valuable for both programs.
How many people should participate in a learning group?
Groups can be as small as six people or as large as fifty. It is important the members of the group believe they can learn from each other's experiences. They must also trust one another to enter accurate and useful information; however, all entries are anonymous.
Is ExperienceBase a proprietary software tool?
Yes, of UNC Executive Development.
How do you encourage people to participate?
When experiences are shared and others can reflect, learn, and respond with further learning, it becomes a vital tool that enhances learning for all. Participants can use ExperienceBase in conjunction with a broader leadership program. The software can be used as a central component of participation in a development program, with pre-program entries, and then as participants learn and utilize the program content, can continue to enter experiences post program. The tool continues to grow as people participate and in some cases, the learning can be used to summarize overall learning.
Can the software be integrated into an existing development program?
Yes, but first we would need to know more about your specific needs and how you feel it might be integrated.
Are resources available in case of issues or questions?
We can provide you with faculty and/or facilitators to review data. We can provide individual feedback or in a group session via a webinar.
Can you customize specific questions?
Yes. Questions can be customized based on your specific needs. This can enhance the experience and tie it in more specifically to outcomes you are trying to insure.
