Desmond received a BA in Economics from The Ohio State University in 2009. Upon graduating, he worked in GPS Satellite Acquisitions/Program Management in Los Angeles, CA. Desmond was an Acquisitions officer in the U.S. Air Force for seven years. He was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before making the transition to business school at Kenan-Flagler. Desmond is looking to transition to a career in General Management.
Leo Robles is an active duty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. Prior to business school, Leo was a Search and Rescue helicopter pilot for 10 years. His last military assignment was in Atlantic City New Jersey where he flew Search and Rescue and Rotary Wing Air Intercept missions throughout the country in support of the U.S. Secret Service and Office of the President of the United States. Prior to that, Leo served in Puerto Rico where he did numerous counter drug and human trafficking deployments throughout the Caribbean. Leo holds a BA in Biology from Rutgers University and an MS Finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. After graduation, Leo will return to Active Duty and work in Washington DC planning and executing the Coast Guard’s Budget.
Jim received his BA in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN in 2009. Upon graduating, he was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy. He served seven years and did two Western Pacific deployments, both on guided missile destroyers. Jim plans to found his own company after graduation and will spend the summer interning with a local tech startup based out of Durham.
Owen Bullard - VP of Corporate Relations: Energy
Owen received a BS in Oceanography from the United States Naval Academy in 2011. After graduation, he was designated as a submarine officer and began nuclear power training in Charleston, SC. After subsequent training assignments in Ballston Spa, NY and Groton, CT, Owen was assigned to the USS Wyoming in Kings Bay, GA. He spent three years as a member of the Gold Crew, serving in a variety of billets as a junior officer and went on five strategic deterrent patrols. Owen is interning with ExxonMobil this summer in Houston, TX as a Controller’s intern.
Mark Robinson - VP of Corporate Relations: Real Estate
Mark received a BS from Towson University in 2009. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Infantry Officer and later became a Reconnaissance Officer in the United States Marine Corps where he deployed multiple times to Afghanistan, Africa, and Colombia while stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. Mark is looking to transition to a career in Real Estate Development and will be interning this summer at Johnson Development Associates in Spartanburg, SC.
Drew Biefelt - VP of Corporate Relations: Healthcare
Drew received a BS in Chemistry from the United States Naval Academy in 2007. He selected Naval Aviation, flew the EA-6B Prowler, and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for nine years. Drew deployed three times aboard aircraft carriers and completed over 90 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. His final tour was at the Pentagon serving as a strategy writer, speech writer, and aide-de-camp. Drew is seeking a career in the pharmaceutical industry and will be interning at Genentech this summer in South San Francisco, CA.
Rob Carlson - VP of Corporate Relations: Operations
Robert Carlson is pursing dual concentrations in Operations Management and Marketing. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler, he served in the United States Army for 6.5 years, first as a Artillery Officer, and later as a Intelligence Officer. During his time in the Army, he served in Khandahar and Zabul provinces in Afghanistan and also in South Korea. He graduated from James Madison University in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science.
Greg Dougherty - VP of Community Outreach
Matt Leitch - VP of Learning & Development
Matt received a BA in Political Science from Clemson University in 2010. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Army. He attended flight school to fly the UH-60 Blackhawk, and was stationed in Hawaii and Alabama. Additionally, he deployed to Afghanistan for 12 months. After leaving military service in 2016, he enrolled at Kenan-Flagler Business School with the intention of transitioning to a career in real estate development. He will have an internship with Johnson Development Associates in Spartanburg, SC this summer.
Greg Dougherty served for six years as a weapons technician in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed onboard the USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) and deployed three times to the Mediterranean Sea and Horn of Africa. Upon leaving the Navy, he worked for two years as a technical writer and systems analyst, and graduated from the University of Virginia in 2016 with a BA in Foreign Affairs. Greg is pursuing enrichment concentrations in energy and sustainable enterprise, and plans to enter the energy industry upon graduation.
