UNC Real Estate Club

Mission

UNC's MBA Real Estate Club aims to provide a strong platform from which to explore the real estate industry, pursue educational and career opportunities, and further the practice of real estate.

Leadership Team

Zach Spencer - President

Zach is pursuing a concentration in real estate development and finance at Kenan-Flagler and plans to work in commercial real estate after graduation. Prior to business school, he earned an undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and worked as a project manager in the construction industry, including two years on the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. Zach is an avid Carolina Panthers fan and enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with his wife, Kaitlin, and their two dogs.

Bryan Ward - VP of Finance

Bryan is pursuing a real estate concentration at UNC Kenan-Flagler and plans to work in real estate development after graduation. He earned an undergraduate degree from East Carolina University where he majored in Finance. Prior to attending business school, he worked for Credit Suisse in investment banking operations and Greystone in affordable housing development. During the summer, Bryan will intern at Northview Partners working on multifamily development projects in North Carolina.

Mark Robinson - VP of Communications

Mark received a BS from Towson University in 2009. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Infantry Officer and later became a Recon Officer in the United States Marine Corps where he deployed multiple times to Afghanistan, Africa, and Colombia. At UNC Kenan-Flagler, Mark is concentrating in both real estate and corporate finance and plans to begin a career in commercial real estate development after graduation. This summer Mark will be interning at Johnson Development Associates in Spartanburg, SC.

Areti Moustakis - VP of Corporate Relations

Areti is pursuing a concentration in real estate at Kenan-Flagler and plans to work in real estate development after graduation. Prior to business school, she earned an undergraduate degree in Finance from Manhattan College and worked for Morgan Stanley in a variety of roles across Wealth Management, Private Banking, and Institutional Securities. This summer Areti will be interning at EDENS as a development associate in Atlanta, GA.

Emmit Visconti - VP of Learning & Development

Emmit is a class of 2018 MBA student concentrating in Real Estate. A native Californian, Emmit grew up in Los Angeles and earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Sonoma State University. After graduating, he set out to gain a solid understanding of business finance by joining Keysight Technologies, where he worked as a financial analyst for 3 years. Emmit chose Kenan-Flagler primarily because of its real estate program, but views the basketball team as substantial icing on the cake. This summer, Emmit will be joining the development team at Trammell Crow Residential in Atlanta, GA.

Membership Benefits

The UNC Real Estate Club aims to improve the career prospects and education of each one of its members. Whether you are an industry veteran, career switcher, or simply interested in the field of study, the Club provides a number of opportunities to expand your knowledge and network. The UNC Real Estate Club is one of the most active MBA Clubs on campus in terms of networking, educational, and social events, with member benefits including, but not limited to:

Recruitment: Resume and cover letter workshops, mock interviews with current students and alumni, personalized networking strategy, and constant exposure to industry professionals

Mentorship: Each Real Estate student has a designated 2nd Year Career Mentor and Alumni Mentor.

Industry training: ARGUS certification course, LEED Green Associate training, Training the Street and a real estate financial modeling seminar.

Education: Weekly lunch meetings that build a real estate knowledge base through lecture and guest speakers. Company visits to developers, investors, banks, architects, contractors, planners, engineers, and many more.

Case Competitions: 1st Year Internal Case Competition at UNC; National Real Estate Challenge in Austin, TX; and the UNC Real Estate Development Challenge.

Conferences: ULI conferences in the Raleigh/Durham area and the annual UNC Real Estate Conference with over 500 industry professionals. Industry association membership dues are reimbursed through the UNC Wood Center for Real Estate.

Site visits: Treks to Atlanta, Washington D.C., New York City, Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham and select other cities based on interest. Market overviews with commercial real estate professionals from select markets not visited.

Social: Networking events with alumni, football tailgates, golf tournaments, BBQs, mentorship program with the Undergrad Real Estate Club, and Habitat for Humanity service days.
