Mission | Leadership Team
The mission of the Private Equity Club is to provide club membership the necessary education, exposure to industry leaders, access to alumni and leadership opportunities so that they might secure a career in the Private Equity space following graduation and establish valuable long-term relationships with colleagues and industry professionals.
Jon Behrendt - President
Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler, Jon worked in financial services at J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank in New York City for multiple global interest rates trading desks. Jon graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from Brown University, where he was also a four-year student athlete on the Division I Men's Soccer team. This summer, Jon will be joining the Middle Market M&A Advisory group at Lazard in Charlotte.
Andrew Gillette - VP of Finance & AIC
Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler, Andrew worked in corporate finance at Accenture and was part of a rotational program, FDP. During the rotational program Andrew spent time in Client Financial Management, Accenture Software, and Corporate Development. While at Accenture Andrew specialized in Communications and High Tech Clients and Value Based deal shaping. Andrew graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Elon University. This summer, Andrew will be joining the Leveraged Finance group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Nicholas Richardson - VP of Communications
Prior to business school, Nicholas worked as a strategy consultant for five years at Houlihan Lokey in Chicago. As an Associate, Nicholas developed growth and operational strategies for clients across industries. Nicholas graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University, where he double majored in Economics and Human & Organizational Development. At Kenan-Flagler, Nicholas is concentrating in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Finance and is pursuing a role in the venture capital industry. Currently, Nicholas is interning at Mosaic Health Solutions (BCBSNC’s venture firm) and will be interning at SJF Ventures this summer.
Russell Clarke - VP of Corporate Relations
Prior to attending UNC Kenan-Flagler, Russell worked on the energy services & cleantech deal team at FMI Capital Advisors - a boutique investment bank focused on M&A in the infrastructure space. While at FMI Russell completed sell-side transactions involving solar, energy efficiency, and building optimization companies. At UNC Kenan-Flagler Russell is pursuing the Corporate Finance and Energy concentrations. Russell holds a B.A. in Economics from Colorado College. When not at school, Russell enjoys fishing North Carolina’s beaches.
Suman Sarma - VP of Learning and Development
Suman is a 1st year MBA at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School pursuing a concentration in Corporate Finance and Capital Markets & Investments. Prior to pursuing his MBA, Suman was an Analyst in Bear Stearns’ Healthcare Investment Banking group, where his primary responsibilities included building detailed financial models for equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, and recapitalizations for transactions in the healthcare industry. Following his tenure at Bear Stearns, Suman was a Senior Analyst in CIT Group’s Global Healthcare group, where his primary responsibilities included creating leveraged buyout models with base case and downside case scenarios to assess debt capacity and paydown for debt financings of middle-market private equity leveraged buyouts in the healthcare industry. Suman holds a B.S. in Finance and Accounting from New York University’s Stern School of Business and will be joining Mosaic Health, the private equity arm of Blue Cross Blue Shield, as a summer associate.
