Leadership Team

Christian Smith - President

Christian is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler Business School, Christian spent six years working in corporate banking for Barclays in England. In his most recent role, Christian was an Associate Director in Barclays’ head office in London, where he worked with senior bankers in structuring corporate banking transactions for some of the largest companies in the world. Prior to this role, Christian was a Relationship Support Manager where he worked with a portfolio of SMEs, and provided them with support for all of their corporate banking requirements. Christian graduated from the University of Northampton in England in 2008 with a First Class Bachelors of Arts degree (with Honors) in Business & Politics. This summer, Christian will be joining the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in New York.

Sean McKelvey - VP of Finance

Sean is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler Business School, Sean worked for New York Life as a senior associate in the firm’s insurance group. He spent the majority of his time there classifying high face amount risk and, most recently, played a central role in the 125-person underwriting team responsible for nearly half of New York Life’s $1.8 billion in core earnings. Sean is a CFA Charterholder and a graduate of Georgetown University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Languages. This summer, Sean will be joining the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in New York.

Charlie Shiflett - VP of Communications

Charlie is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler Business School, Charlie spent 4 years in New York and London at SNL Financial, a sector focused research and data provider. In his most recent role, Charlie was a Senior Product Associate where he worked closely with current and prospective investment banking, regulatory, consulting, and private equity clients throughout North America, Europe, and Asia on how to use the suite of SNL Financial products most effectively. He specialized in financial institutions and was instrumental in the European Central Bank’s implementation of SNL Financial for the most recent stress tests. Charlie graduated from the University of Virginia in 2009 with a Bachelors of Arts in History. This summer, Charlie will be joining the Investment Banking Division of Jefferies in New York.

Bill Stafford - VP of Learning & Development

‚ÄčBill is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler Business School, Bill spent three years in Charlotte as a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley where he worked with high net worth individuals in a portfolio management role. During his tenure at Morgan Stanley, Bill accumulated $37.9 million in assets and was the #1 ranked financial advisor in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia in terms of new assets acquired in 2013. Bill graduated Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business in Economics. This summer, Bill will be joining the Investment Banking Division of Jefferies in New York.

Meghan Marie McDonnell - VP of Corporate Sponsorship

Meghan is a class of 2016 MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance. Prior to attending Kenan-Flagler Business School, Meghan spent three years in San Francisco in mobile tech as a Manager of Client Strategy. In her role, Meghan managed the West Coast business territory, including forecasting and tracking all revenue, supervising a team of five, and working with Fortune 500 clients to develop their digital marketing strategy. Prior to that role, Meghan spent four years as a Project Manager in the commercial architecture and design space. Meghan graduated from the University of California, Davis with degrees in Biology and Art History, and holds a certificate from the University of California, Berkeley in Clinical Trial Management and Regulatory Affairs. This summer, Meghan will be joining the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley in New York.
