A new corporate governance program for executives will be offered by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School on March 21-22, 2011, at the Rizzo Conference Center.
The “Director Development Institute” is designed for board chairs, corporate directors and senior executive officers of publicly traded companies.
“Executives will learn about current issues facing boards and new trends and theories in corporate governance,” said Susan Cates, associate dean of executive development at UNC Kenan-Flagler. “They will develop the framework for making critical decisions about corporate strategy, compensation, succession planning, risk and crisis management, financial policy, and financial reporting.”
Legal and financial services experts, top law and business faculty, and directors of major corporations lead the program. They will help executives examine key board committees and directors’ roles and responsibilities. They will also engage in smaller problem-solving sessions, where they can network and develop corporate-level strategies for creating long-term value for stockholders and sound, legal strategies to guide their boards.
“Directors are actively searching for the knowledge and training they need to perform their fiduciary duties and optimize their companies’ results and reputations,” said program director Linda Selbach. “Together we will tackle the problems they face daily.”
