Steve earned an M.B.A. at Chapel Hill in 2000, where he served as MBASA Vice President for Student Activities. Shortly after graduation, he and three classmates co-founded the Washington, DC Alumni Club. He served as the DC Alumni Club’s director from 2004-2005 and led the Richmond VA Alumni Club from 2006 to 2010.Professionally, Steve is an experienced marketing consultant. In 2005 he joined HawkPartners, a boutique market research and marketing strategy firm, where as a Partner he leads engagements with Fortune-500 companies. His areas of expertise include customer attitudes and behaviors, market opportunity analysis, brand positioning development, concept testing, and marketing and sales funnel performance. Previously, Steve managed engagements at MarketBridge (a marketing and sales consultancy), analyzed e-business trends at Toyota’s strategic planning group. Led brand naming development at the identity firm Interbrand, and worked in consumer marketing at Wenner Media (publisher of “Rolling Stone” and “Us” magazines). Steve grew up in Los Angeles, CA and earned a B.A. in Economics and Communication, with honors, from the University of Michigan in 1993. He enjoys tennis, running, fiction, film, and world travel. In 2003-2004 he and his wife Stephanie traveled on sabbatical to Japan, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Eastern Europe, Ethiopia (while volunteering for Pact, a global NGO), Kenya and Tanzania. They have recently moved back to Washington, DC where they live with Max (3 yrs.), Zoe (3 mos.), and Stonewall, their Plott Hound (the state dog of North Carolina!).
