UNC Consortium Application FAQs

UNC Kenan-Flagler is a proud member school of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management (The Consortium or CGSM). Every year we enroll a strong, active and engaged Consortium community, and we are excited that you are interested in joining this accomplished group of students at UNC Kenan-Flagler.

This FAQ page is intended to help answer the most frequently asked questions about the application and fellowship consideration processes.

Q: Do I need to submit a separate UNC Kenan-Flagler admissions application in addition to the Consortium application?

A: No. UNC Kenan-Flagler accepts the Consortium application for admission and fellowship consideration. Consortium applicants will need to interview with a UNC Kenan-Flagler admission committee member as part of the admissions application process in order to compete for a seat in the upcoming class.

Q: What do I do since UNC Kenan-Flagler’s deadlines are different than the Consortium deadlines?

A: As a Consortium applicant you should adhere to the requirements, application process and deadlines outlined by the Consortium. Check The Consortium application instruction page for a list of required materials, application process outline and deadlines. You should note that the Consortium requires that you adhere to each individual school's interview policy.

Q: How do I schedule my admissions interview at UNC Kenan-Flagler?

A: We offer an open interview policy for all applicants to UNC Kenan-Flagler. We do not issue invitations to interview. Once you start your Consortium application and select UNC as one of your schools, we will provide you with a login for the UNC Application Portal. We will contact you directly within 10 business days regarding next steps. At that point, you are welcome to schedule your interview by logging into the UNC Kenan-Flagler Application Portal and selecting the Campus Visit & Interview Scheduler.

You are not required to complete your admissions application before scheduling your interview. Interviews may be conducted on campus, by telephone, by webcam or with an alumnus member of the Admissions Committee (outside of the U.S. only). Remember:

  • Interview slots fill quickly during the peak of the admissions season, so book yours early!
  • You must interview with a member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Admissions Committee
  • You need to complete your interview by the UNC Kenan-Flagler interview deadline for your application round (see below)

If you apply by the October Consortium deadline AND wish to be considered for UNC’s Early Action round of admission, you will need to contact  in writing to request that your application be moved to the UNC Early Action pool. Please note that Early Action is an option for applicants who know for certain that they will attend UNC Kenan-Flagler if admitted. Admitted applicants in the Early Action cycle will be required to submit a $2,500 non-refundable enrollment deposit in order to secure a space in the class. You should not apply for Early Action if you are not prepared to commit immediately to attending UNC.

Please be aware that Consortium fellowship offers will not be made prior to the Early Action enrollment deposit due date. Although we announce UNC Kenan-Flagler fellowship awards at the same time we release admissions decisions, the Consortium Fellowship awards will be announced December 2014 and March 2015.

Q: If I apply via the Consortium, will I be considered for any other merit-based fellowships in addition to the Consortium fellowship?

A: Yes. All applicants for the UNC Kenan-Flagler full-time MBA program will be considered for merit-based fellowships. Applicants will be notified of their UNC Kenan-Flagler Fellowship award status when the admissions decisions are released.

Each year we award merit-based fellowships based on the following criteria: a superior record of achievement in academic and career settings, diverse experiences, and strong leadership potential and interpersonal skills. The same criteria will be used when considering Consortium applicants for the Consortium tuition fellowship. Consortium applicants will be considered for all fellowships we offer, in addition to the Consortium fellowship for which they have specifically applied.

Q: When can I expect to hear if I have been selected as a Consortium member and have received a Consortium fellowship?

A: Although we announce UNC Kenan-Flagler fellowship awards at the same time we release admissions decisions, Consortium membership and fellowship decisions are issued directly by The Consortium in December 2014 and March 2015.
