Julia Kruse is an innovator in global education and strategy. As executive director of the Global Business Center (GBC) at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, she shapes and oversees the strategic, school-wide Dean’s Global Education Initiative to increase the global competencies of all students, faculty, and staff.
Kruse has over twenty years of experience in international education, including curricular development, teaching, research in communication, and grant writing. She previously served as an assistant director in UNC's Study Abroad Office, where she developed and managed more than 120 programs and assisted with the university's broader internationalization initiatives, including globalization of the curriculum and fundraising.
Kruse served as the global studies coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, creating a multi-track global studies degree and organizing community outreach programs. Her expertise in international education helps to advance UNC Kenan-Flagler’s globalization efforts and to increase global capacity in students, faculty, and professionals.
Kruse is a native of Germany and studied abroad in France, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom. She speaks French, German, and some Spanish. She came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar and received master's and doctoral degrees in communication from Florida State University. She holds a bachelor's degree in business and applied foreign languages from the University of Kassel in Germany.
