Career Coaching Program
The Center for Sustainable Enterprise (CSE) career coaching program brings UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA students together with friends and affiliates of the CSE to help students refine their interests and career goals while building meaningful one-on-one relationships.
Benefits of the Program — A Win-Win
The benefits of the career coaching program can be seen from both sides of the relationship. Both advisors and students gain from mutual learning and issues-oriented dialogue. Coaches stand to become more involved in the CSE while learning about current and evolving business models related to diverse sustainability topics from the students. In exchange, coaches can provide their students with insights from their own experience and advice on best practices in applying the skills they are mastering at Kenan-Flagler - as well as valuable assistance and advice for their career path.
Both coach and student are expected to take the initiative to shape a meaningful relationship in order to both give and take as much as possible from the program. Thus, the program operates with minimal structure and leaves the individuals freedom to define their own goals and expectations regarding what they hope to gain from their interactions.
How does it work?
The CSE invites any of its willing affiliates to become coaches and provides a list of these people willing to act as coaches to Kenan-Flagler MBA students seeking an advisor. Students indicate their background and areas of interest, and then the CSE facilitates matches between students and its associates based on student preferences and the CSE's discretion. The students seeking coaches will be committed to developing a long-term professional relationship with their advisor and will carry the responsibility to develop and maintain contact at a level mutually agreed upon by career coach and student. This can take as little as an hour a month.
