Invited junior scholars from around the world will present research findings, share ideas and build professional networks at The Next Generation Junior Faculty Research Roundtable in December, part of UNC CIBER’s Global Private Investing conference.
Junior faculty roundtables are a key component of The Next Generation conference series. They provide a protected environment for invited tenure-track faculty to discuss the challenges and opportunities they face in pursuing their research and vet ideas with others in their field.
Attendees applaud the roundtables for helping them expand networks that lead directly to research collaborations, speaking engagements and published papers, says CIBER Executive Director Julia Kruse.
“For that reason, the gatherings attract a great deal of interest among top business schools,” she says.
Saravanan Kesavan, a UNC Kenan-Flagler assistant professor of operations, technology and innovation management, says the inaugural 2011 roundtable “Innovating the Global Supply Chain” was an invaluable opportunity to advance his work and connect with peers.
“The roundtable provided a forum for untenured junior faculty to share their research with other colleagues who are working on similar areas and benefit from their feedback,” Kesavan says.
Bradley Staats, assistant professor in operations, technology and innovation management at Kenan-Flagler, agrees.
“The roundtable discussion gathers the next generation of academic thought leaders to share their current work. This creates a rare opportunity for personal interaction which is extremely valuable," he says.
Karan Girotra, assistant professor at the INSEAD business school in Paris, applauds the focus on current issues.
“The agenda is current. It is what companies want to know more about,” Girotra says.
