    WORKING Languages™ programs help students and working professionals learn languages and business cultures so they can conduct business internationally or manage diverse organizations.

    These programs use a unique combination of interactive technology, distance learning, instructor-led workshops, conversation hours and an immersion to a country where the target language is spoken to create culturally sensitive language speakers who can function comfortably and effectively in the target language's workplace.

    Carmen Braun, a native of Germany, is the Marketing Manager for VS America furniture company in Charlotte, NC. Ms. Braun will share and compare her experiences working for VS in Germany and the US and discuss how marketing strategies differ in European, US, and other markets worldwide.
    The century-old German company VS is one of the world’s leading manufacturer of school furniture. VS focuses on ergonomics, use of high quality and environmentally friendly materials, as well as visual design. Significant criteria in the development of VS furniture include the consideration of environmental aspects. From the choice of raw-materials to the processing technology and right through to the packing and delivery of the furniture, VS thinks “green”.

    VS opened its US branch in 2003 and has since consistently expanded its operation. VS’ workforce includes sales teams throughout all of the US, Canada, South America, and the Caribbean.

    CLS is an academic conference simultaneously focused on US-China relations and connecting future leaders in the dynamic. The goal of CLS is to promote the collaboration of student leaders in the American South in an exploration of China relations. CLS seeks to promote dialogue on the future of that relationship by utilizing convenient resources in the Research Triangle Park area, which is rich with Chinese researchers, corporations, and resources.

    The theme of CLS 2012 is The Role of Changing Technologies in the US-China Dynamic. This theme was chosen by the CLS Executive Team to address various technological developments that will impact the US-China relationship through educational innovation, internet freedoms, demographics, and geopolitics. The annual theme of the conference reflects particular interesting developments ongoing in current world events, but does not serve to limit the interests of delegates who wish to apply. In addition to issues relevant to this year’s theme, CLS will continue to provide insights from academics, professors, policy makers, and entrepreneurs in a wide range of topics.

    A Seemingly Old Subject, the Transatlantic Relations Might Help to Resolve the Global Crisis: An Attempt to Think Out of the Hat

    A native German, Klaus Becker holds a M.B.A. degree and a Masters of National Economics from the Ruhr-University in Bochum, Germany. He is the founder, owner, and CEO of Nirosteel, LLC and is the co-founder of several companies, among them Estrela Specialty Steel, AMS Specialty Steel, and South Star Steel, at that time the largest importer of stainless steel bars in the US.

    Mr. Becker currently serves as Director of the German American Chamber of Commerce in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Charlotte World Trade Association and the European American Business Forum. Previously, he served as Vice President of the NC World Trade Organization. Mr. Becker has won numerous awards, among them the North Carolina ‘Entrepreneur of the Year.’

    Mr. Becker is fluent in five languages and acquired global business experience by working in a number of different countries – Germany, Italy, Brazil, and the United States.
