You can choose to:

  • Exchange emails
  • Conduct brief telephone conversations
  • Review or critique resumes
  • Conduct informational interviews
  • Offer suggestions on relevant coursework
  • Provide advice on job search approaches
  • Post employment opportunities in the alumni job posting site

What to expect as a Career Advisor

Alumni and students will review your profile before contacting you to ensure that their questions match the type of assistance you are willing to provide. People who contact Career Advisors often are looking for:
  • Details about your job function. They may want details on your day to day responsibilities, specific challenges and potential career paths in jobs they are seeking.
  • Perspectives on your company. They may be seeking information about the history, culture and work environment of your company in preparation for an upcoming interview.
  • In-depth industry knowledge. They want to learn about new trends, hot topics, or current events that are affecting your industry.
  • To expand their network. They may ask for the names of a few additional people in your company for additional perspectives or specific information.
  • Names of recruiters. They may want to know who to contact regarding positions of interest.
On average, about 2 to 5 people will contact you in a given year. You may be contacted more often if you work for a well-known company or in a popular job function.

To become a Career Advisor (or to update your information), complete your Career Advisor Profile.

Once you complete your Career Advisor Profile, you can check your record online for accuracy or to update your information.
