Global Operations Management

Jay Swaminathan

In addition to teaching, Jay serves as the Associate Dean of the OneMBA Program at UNC Kenan-Flagler. His recent research focuses on managing global supply chains that span emerging economies like India and China. In one big research project, Jay helped the California Public Health Institute distribute more than $150 million worth of free medicine to poor people in need. Before that, Jay’s research helped IBM change the way it built computer servers using semi-finished products – called "vanilla boxes" – to enable rapid customization. Now most computer manufacturers have adopted this configure-to-order (CTO) approach. For fun, he sings with local Indian bands. Check out Jay’s faculty profile on video.

Leading and Managing Global Organizations

Mabel Miguel

Mabel’s areas of expertise are global career management and multicultural management and leadership skills. Often, she says, executive MBA students say they wish they had learned these skills earlier in their career. Born in Buenos Aires, she has lived in Venezuela, Barbados, France and Turkey, where she was a visiting professor at Koç University in Istanbul. Check out Mabel’s faculty profile on video

Global Marketing Management

Sridhar Balasubramanian

In his research, “Dr. B” creates business models that capture how firms compete in the marketplace. His recent research examines how companies can design managerial incentives to maximize profits in competitive environments. He studies how product and service companies can systematically apply tools to discover opportunities for innovation and growth. In the classroom, Dr. B shows managers how to employ these tools to boost their company’s performance. Before earning his PhD at Yale, Dr. B was area sales manager for India’s leading food manufacturing and marketing company.

Corporate Finance in a Global Environment

Paolo Fulghieri

Paolo’s research interests are corporate and entrepreneurial finance, with a special focus on venture capital and initial public offerings. Paolo is truly a global citizen. Before coming to UNC Kenan-Flagler, he taught at INSEAD in Paris, where he headed up its PhD program. He has also studied in Milan and London and taught at other top-ranking b-schools, including Northwestern, Columbia, Chicago, and Wharton, where he earned his PhD.

Strategy in a Global Arena

Peter Brews

In addition to his work as UNC Kenan-Flagler’s OneMBA Associate Dean, Peter researches how the "twin shocks" of globalization and the Internet are changing the ways that companies conduct business and compete with each other. His perspectives and discussions with students about the evolution of global business set the stage during the OneMBA Opening Week. Peter also wraps up the OneMBA curriculum as professor for the final global strategy core course. Peter is easily accessible to OneMBA students during weekend sessions, and he participates in all OneMBA global residencies. In 2008, he led a global immersion experience for OneMBA alumni to South Africa.
