UNC Kenan-Flagler is a proud member school of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management ("The Consortium" or CGSM). We are proud to have a very strong, active and engaged Consortium community and are excited that you are interested in joining this amazing group of students at UNC Kenan-Flagler.
This FAQ page is intended to help answer the most often-asked questions about the application and fellowship consideration process.
Q: Do I need to submit a separate UNC Kenan-Flagler admissions application in addition to the Consortium application?
A: No. UNC Kenan-Flagler accepts the Consortium application for admission and fellowship consideration. Applicants will need to interview with a UNC Kenan-Flagler admission committee member as part of the admissions application process.
Q: What do I do since UNC Kenan-Flagler’s deadlines are different than the Consortium deadlines?
A: As a Consortium applicant you should adhere to the requirements, application process, and deadlines outlined by the Consortium. Go to www.cgsm.org for a list of required materials, application processes, and deadlines. The Consortium does require that you adhere to each school's interview policy, however.
Q: How do I schedule my admissions interview at UNC Kenan-Flagler?
A: Here at UNC Kenan-Flagler, we offer an open interview policy to all applicants. You can schedule your interview as soon as you feel ready. You are not required to have completed your application for admission before conducting the interview. Since interview slots are limited, we encourage you to select an interview slot as early as possible. Regular UNC applicants typically schedule their interview online through our application portal. However, if you are applying through the Consortium, we strongly recommend that you NOT create a profile through the UNC Kenan-Flagler website, since our team will create a profile for each applicant upon loading the completed applications into our internal database. The best way, therefore, to schedule your interview, is to contact our interview coordinator at and ask for instructions for Consortium applicants. Keep in mind that you will still need to complete your interview by the UNC interview deadline indicated on our deadlines page.
All UNC Kenan-Flagler admissions interviews are conducted by a member of the Admissions Committee. We cannot accept an interview conducted elsewhere or by another individual in lieu of the UNC interview. Interviews may be conducted on campus, by telephone, by webcam, or with an alumnus member of the admissions committee in some locations.
Q: When can I expect to hear my admissions decision from UNC Kenan-Flagler?
A: Applicants who complete their Consortium application by the Consortium’s November deadline will be considered in the UNC Kenan-Flagler Deadline 2 (December) application pool. Your admission decision will be released in February.
Applicants applying by the Consortium’s January deadline will be considered amongst the UNC Kenan-Flagler Deadline 3 (January) application pool and will receive the admission decision in March.
If you apply by the November Consortium deadline AND wish to be considered for UNC’s Early Action round of admission, you will need to contact in writing to request that your application be moved to the UNC Early Action pool. Please note that Early Action is an option for applicants who know for certain that they will attend UNC Kenan-Flagler if admitted. Admitted applicants in the Early Action cycle will be required to submit a $2,500 non-refundable enrollment deposit in order to secure a space in the class. You should not apply for Early Action if you are not prepared to commit immediately to attending UNC. Please be aware that Consortium Fellowship offers will not be made prior to the Early Action enrollment deposit due date. CGSM fellowship offers will not be announced until March.
Q: If I apply via the Consortium, will I be considered for any other merit-based fellowships in addition to the Consortium fellowship?
A: All applicants for the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA program who complete their application by the January deadline, will be considered for merit-based fellowships. Applicants will be notified of their UNC Kenan-Flagler fellowship decision approximately 7-10 days after the admissions decision is released.
Each year we award merit-based fellowships based on the following criteria: a superior record of achievement in academic and career settings; diverse experiences; and strong leadership potential and interpersonal skills. Consortium applicants will be considered for all fellowships we offer, in addition to the Consortium fellowship for which they have specifically applied. The same criteria will be used when considering Consortium applicants for the Consortium tuition fellowship as well as the other fellowships we offer.
Q: When can I expect to hear if I have been selected as a Consortium member and have received a Consortium fellowship?
A: The Membership and Selection Committee will meet in St. Louis in March of each academic year. Following that meeting, Consortium membership decisions will be issued directly by the Consortium in mid-March. Consortium fellowship decisions will be announced by each member school in March as well.
