What she does in her job:
"I am responsible for marketing our biologic products to payer customers like insurance carriers. Our primary goal is to make sure that if a physician wants to write a prescription for a Johnson & Johnson biologic product, patients have access to those products through their health insurance plans. We develop value propositions, strategies and tactics that help our account management team to secure access for our biologic products."
What has UNC Kenan-Flagler helped you achieve in your career?
"In addition to general management skills, the most valuable skill I took away from Kenan-Flagler was leadership. The school gives you a really solid background that prepares you for the different roles you will have in your career. Whether you're managing people or working in a contributor role, you must have strong leadership skills and be able to influence others, even at the entry level in a company."
What has the UNC Kenan-Flagler network meant to your career?
"UNC Kenan-Flagler has a very big presence at Johnson & Johnson. We had two interns in pharmaceutical marketing this summer from the MBA Class of 2010, and they both got job offers. I believe UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni can be successful at Johnson & Johnson because culturally the organizations are very similar with a focus on leadership and collaboration. Also, keeping in touch with my classmates from UNC Kenan-Flagler both inside and outside of Johnson & Johnson has been valuable in terms of sharing experiences, expertise and career opportunities."
How has UNC Kenan-Flagler's focus on leadership helped your career?
"The reason UNC Kenan-Flagler graduates are successful at Johnson & Johnson is because of the School's leadership and teamwork focus. To be successful at Johnson & Johnson, you have to be able to influence without authority and work in a collaborative environment. You have to be willing to reach out and engage with people across all different functional areas. That is something that is really instilled in students here from the very beginning when you start out with your core team for the first year."
