Weekend MBA Class of 2011
Senior Director, Business Development
bioMerieux SA - Lyon, France
"The MBA gave me exposure to the aspects of business. This helped me develop a more strategic approach to problem solving, and expanded my career options."
Why did you pursue an MBA?
“Being an expat is challenging enough - particularly when you have three kids under the age of 10! But, during my four year assignment in the Triangle, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get my MBA at a top-ranked business school.”
Advice for incoming students?
“Be prepared. It’s hard to go back to school again, after being out for a number of years. If you start the program already feeling like you have to catch up, you end up taking shortcuts and you don’t get the true value from the classes. Because I got myself up to speed before the program started, I was prepared to take full advantage of every learning opportunity. UNC offers many ways to get yourself up to speed, so you can start the program with confidence.”
- Business Skills: “My career progression had been limited to my specific field of finance. The MBA gave me exposure to the aspects of business. This helped me develop a more strategic approach to problem solving, and expanded my career options.”
- Credibility: “In my company, all the top managers have an MBA. They know the value it brings, so they are more likely to consider people who have those skills.”
- International Experience: “I’m from Italy, so I brought an international point of view to our discussions inside and outside of the classroom. In return, the program provided me a safe environment to interact with American professionals and learn about the U.S. business culture.”
- Management Opportunities: “Immediately after graduation, I was offered a promotion to a management position in Lyon, France. Without an MBA, this would not have been possible.”
