Grants & Scholarships

We help students and faculty find grants and scholarships for international study, work and research. Some aid programs support all of these activities.

Government-Sponsored Scholarships
Fulbright Fellowships These provide fellowships of 6 months to 1 year for study, work or research in another country. Fulbright funds these exchanges to increase understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries.
German Chancellor Fellowship Program - administered by the Humboldt Foundation These fellowships cover 1 year of professional development, study or research in Germany. They include a monthly stipend plus a month of language training before the Program begins.

In addition to these programs, there are grants and scholarships specific to each of the following areas. These are grouped by category.

Work Abroad
Emerging Markets Development Advisers Program (EMDAP)
Funded by USAID and the Institute of International Education.
This program gives MBA students 10 months of business work experience in other countries. It includes living expenses, health insurance and round-trip airfare.
Luce Scholarships These scholarships give 15 stipends and internships to live and work in Asia each year. The Program's goal is to increase awareness of Asia among United States citizens less than 30 years old.
The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program This program places business people in internships with the government and private sectors in Germany. United States citizens 23 to 34 years old qualify.

Research
The Center for Austrian Studies Travel Grant from the University of Minnesota These grants fund research in Austria. The number of awards and their amounts varies each year.

Funding for research projects is also offered by these groups.

Institute for International Education (IIE)

Study of Languages, Cultures and Regions
Foreign Language and Areas Studies (FLAS) Fellowships These fellowships fund the study of less commonly taught languages and area studies. There are 3 different types of fellowships. You must be a United States citizen to qualify.
Blakemore Foundation These grants pay for 1 year of study in Asia of any of modern Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Southeast Asian languages. They cover tuition and related expenses, basic living costs and transportation. United States citizens or permanent residents who seek a career in which they must speak an Asian language qualify.
David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP) These fellowships pay for study of languages, cultures, or regions of the world that are critical to national security. They cover up to 2 semesters of study in the United States and abroad, up to $12,000 per semester. Graduate students who are United States citizens qualify.
