The UNC Kenan-Flagler staff works hard to make your transition to the MBA program smooth.

  • We help you with everything, starting with your student visa.
  • We host a special International Student Orientation immediately prior to the main Orientation Program.
  • We offer Analytic Skills Workshops in June and July to help you refine your quantitative skills in the months prior to the start of the MBA Program in August.
  • We provide links to a few native language sites developed by international students.

Scholarships and Loans

Merit fellowships are awarded to 25% of our students. UNC awards are made to international and U.S. students.

UNC provides international students with a loan program that does not require a U.S. co-signer. The North Carolina EXTRA MBA Loan Program provides financial aid for our MBA students who cannot receive loans through the Federal Family Education Loan Program or the EXTRA Education Loan Program.

Student Visa
Office of International Student and Scholar Services

The International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) is your resource for all student visa issues and questions. They issue the I-20 and DS-2019 forms (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant F-1 and J-1 Student Status) to all eligible incoming international students.

Amanda King, our MBA International Student Advisor, can assist you with your immigration status throughout your academic program. She is located in the McColl Building at Kenan-Flagler Business School. You can e-mail her at .

In order to obtain a visa:

  • Internationals students are required by United States federal regulations to certify that they have sufficient funds to cover expenses at UNC for the entire length of their studies.
  • All international students are required to complete the MBA Financial Certificate [PDF:39K]. For details please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions on the OISSS website.
  • Once completed, mail the Financial Certificate to:

Analytic Skills Workshop

The ASW summer program is a chance for you to participate in a business school classroom with your American classmates. Hear idiomatic English and ease into the MBA experience at a more relaxed pace. Arriving early gives you a chance to establish yourself in your new home. It is a great way to start making new friends and forming a network of colleagues.
