Employment of International Students

Some of our international students obtain full-time positions in accounting through the MAC on-campus recruiting process. Those who are the most successful:

  • Demonstrate a very strong fluency in English
  • Are generally extroverted in personality style
  • Are very comfortable with the American culture

Students who do not possess these qualities will likely have difficulty obtaining a position in the US through our on-campus interview process.

International Students Holding Visas with Employment Restrictions

Most of the on-campus MAC employers who interview F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) have indicated that they will also interview visa holders who do not have OPT. Please note that if you are not eligible for OPT, your new employer will need to sponsor you immediately with the H1B visa in order for you to begin your first year of employment. If you are not granted the H1B, you will not be able to begin work with that employer.

Students with OPT who are not granted the H1B for their first year of employment may be able to work under their OPT authorization and re-petition the following year for the H1B. However, it is at the discretion of each employer as to whether or not it will permit the candidate to work the first year under OPT if the candidate does not receive the H1B visa on the first try.
