Raedy's Study Reveals Little Impact of Dividend Tax Cuts

MAC Professor Raedy
Professor Jana Raedy
The economic experts and political pundits may debate whether President George W. Bush's big cut in the dividend tax rate last year fueled a broad economic recovery.

Raedy, an assistant professor of accounting at UNC Kenan-Flagler, and two colleagues made a splash earlier this year with a well-timed study of the tax cut's impact on corporate dividends.

Maydew's Research Shapes Public Policies on Accounting & Tax Laws

MAC Professor Maydew
Professor Ed Maydew
Edward Maydew doesn't just teach accounting at UNC Kenan-Flagler; he helps shape public policy on accounting and tax laws. His research has shaped states' economic development policies, confirmed the importance of accounting results to stock prices and discovered that many companies overstating their accounting earnings actually overpaid their taxes as a result.

Hand Probes The Business of Venture-Backed Companies

MAC Professor Hand
Professor John Hand
John Hand is systematically taking the mystery out of young, venture-backed firms. His research into these companies is revealing new knowledge about-and insights into-the business of high-technology and innovation.

Hand, an accounting professor at UNC Kenan-Flagler and former chair of the accounting area, specializes in analyzing pre-IPO startups. "Of course, the first question in your mind is why on earth is an accounting professor researching startups, when startups don't even have significant financial statements!" he quips.

Researching Accounting's Role in Prevention of Financial Scandals: Bushman Cuts Through The Financial Veil Worldwide

MAC Professor Bushman
Professor Robert Bushman
Robert Bushman would never call himself an international accountant. But his research is changing the way that accounting is viewed worldwide. His most recent work sheds light on how politics and law affect financial reporting in different countries, shows how enforcement of insider trading laws increases scrutiny of companies by analysts, and impacts directly what he teaches students.
