Student Life
Kenan-Flagler offers abundant opportunities for students to learn and grow outside of the
traditional classroom setting through Honors and Independent Studies , Global Studies , Undergraduate Business Symposium
and Student Clubs. Students are encouraged to seize opportunities that take them beyond the
limits of the traditional classroom. It's a chance to extend and distinguish oneself, which
is increasingly important in creating a competitive advantage in the job search. Perhaps more
important, this quest for knowledge is the essence of education for a higher purpose.
Honors and Independent Studies
In an independent study, a student works with a faculty member to investigate a topic of
special interest to both. Through the BSBA honors thesis, qualified seniors complete a major
research project under the close supervision of a faculty advisor.
Global Studies
Students are strongly encouraged to study abroad and gain a firsthand appreciation of global business. Kenan-Flagler has exchange relationships with fifteen partner universities in Europe, Asia, South America, and Oceania. In addition, we offer diverse summer programs ranging from two week immersions to an eight week international internship program.
Courses taken abroad can be used to satisfy BSBA core or elective requirements for the major. Students have a wide variety of courses to choose from and benefit from learning from a new perspective at a top business school overseas. For more information, check the BSBA international programs Web site.
Undergraduate Business Symposium
Since its inception in 1983, the Undergraduate Business Symposium has been the most significant event of the undergraduate curriculum. Offering an exciting exchange of ideas among executives, students and faculty, the Symposium has become an annual highlight for the entire Kenan-Flagler Business School. Students are given the opportunity to meet upper-level executives from a variety of public and private organizations. However, the Symposium is not a career day. Its purpose is to help students begin to develop a sense of professionalism and to gain exposure to critical, contemporary real-world issues. Business students coordinate every aspect of the program.
