Margaret O'Conor
My MBA concentrations: I have decided not to choose an MBA concentration, but focus on my primary areas of interest: biotech and entrepreneurship.

My internship: "I will be interning with Peyton Anderson, an EMBA graduate, at the bioscience firm Affinergy Inc. Mr. Anderson keeps in touch with a faculty member who shares information about potential career opportunities with students"

Background

  • BS in Chemistry, University of Richmond, 1998
  • Marketing manager and medical center representative, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge, MA, 2002-05
Why I chose UNC

  • Ideal location because of proximity to RTP, where major corporations focus on life sciences
  • Supports my focus on healthcare
  • Allows me to gain the broad spectrum of general knowledge that I know every MBA student needs

Student life

"UNC Kenan-Flagler enhances your life, inside and outside the classroom. The school is very responsive to married students' needs and gives spouses a support system. I take part in off-campus activities sponsored by on-campus clubs, from playing sports to touring local company plants."

My experience of the MBA program at UNC

  • "I’m in daily contact with a great group of strong leaders."
  • "I learn almost as much from my peers as I do from the faculty."
  • "Professors appreciate students as individuals."
  • "My classmates from around the globe share their international business experiences."

The UNC Kenan-Flagler network

"We each have a virtual team of classmates, faculty, alumni and staff who work together to ensure our success. For example, my internship came through an alum of UNC’s Executive MBA Program who stays in touch with one of the faculty."
