Edwards' research concerns the meaning, causes, and outcomes of the fit between people and organizations. Specific areas of focus include:
- The multiple ways in which fit and misfit relate to attitudes and behavior
- The impact of fit on stress
- Coping and well-being
- The dynamics of fit between the person and their work and family environments
- Research methods in organizational behavior and psychology, an area is which Edwards is a leading authority
