Working Languages
The Working Languages™ program is designed for busy managers and professional students who need to learn a language for career purposes but have little time to attend traditional classes. The programs, provided on a variety of levels from beginner to advanced intermediate, emphasize oral and written communication within the work environment.
All Working Languages programs use a unique combination of interactive technology, distance learning, instructor-led workshops, conversation hours and in-country immersions to develop culturally sensitive language speakers who can function comfortably and effectively in the workplace where the target language is spoken.
Working Languages courses teach grammar and vocabulary, business culture and communication in a business context. The six thematic units are taken either in three 10-week blocks or two 15-week semesters.
- Building Business Relationships
- At Work
- Socializing and Traveling
- Business Meetings
- Management Challenges
- Personalized Student Project
The immersion visit in a country in which the target language is spoken typically comes at the end of Unit V.
All Working Languages programs are offered:
- For beginners (less than one year of prior instruction) and intermediates (2 to 3 years of prior instruction or the graduates of beginner Working Language program).
- For credit at UNC Kenan-Flagler and selected U.S. university or college business programs.
- As open-enrollment executive programs in Chapel Hill and Charlotte, NC
- As customized executive programs for corporations or specialized groups
