The Kenan Institute offers strategic thought leadership from our experts in air commerce, airport-city and aerotropolis development, as well as world-class management education and industry know-how in transforming knowledge to action.

John D. Kasarda [details], developer of the Global Transpark and aerotropoli concepts, leads a team of Institute researchers and practitioners focused on helping governments, the air-commerce industry and airports strategically leverage airport-linked commercial development. Institute research centers offer expertise in a range of areas vital to air commerce:

  • Center for Air Commerce Studies, a joint venture with The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), conducts research on critical issues facing the air commerce industry and offers a range of graduate and advanced educational programs for TIACA's worldwide membership.

  • Center for Competitive Economies brings the resources of the University to the task of helping communities across the State and nation address critical challenges of competitiveness and economic development. It is one of nine national environmental finance centers created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to help communities determine how best to finance infrastructure projects that improve the environment.

  • Center for Logistics and Digital Strategy helps companies develop innovative logistics and transportation strategies and deploy the latest information technologies to propel their businesses, speed innovative ideas to market and manage in turbulent times.

  • Center for Information and Technology Management helps companies understand technology's impact on markets and competition, and transform themselves to compete in the New Economy.

  • Center for Sustainable Enterprise, internationally recognized for its pioneering work in the field, leverages the knowledge and resources of its global network of scholars, executives and policy makers to address the challenges of environmentally sustainable business development. It conducts next-generation research in this field and is reshaping business education to help business leaders of today and tomorrow successfully integrate environmental and social issues into corporate decision-making.

  • Foundation for Transportation, Trade and Commerce helps corporations, government agencies and airport authorities improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their operating processes and systems, from customs to air cargo flow to multi-modal transportation connections.
