Costa Rica Language Immersion

Costa Rica Language Immersion

Course Overview

Discover the true meaning of “Pura vida”, a Costa Rican phrase which literally means “pure life” or “this is living!” by participating in this intensive three-week language immersion summer program.  It is designed for undergraduates who are interested in learning Spanish or reaching higher proficiency levels.  This real-life experience in Costa Rica will provide participants with the necessary tools to function sensibly and effectively in competitive markets or the workplace.  This program includes home stays, daily language classes with local teachers, company visits, community service, and cultural outings.

The course objectives are:

  • to improve proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • to improve cultural awareness
  • to build confidence while interacting in a cross-cultural environment
  • to develop networking during company visits

The program will kick-off with four 1 hour and 15 min. pre-departure classes, starting during the last week in March.  All program instruction, activities and assignments will be conducted and completed in Spanish.  At the end of the course, the participants will make an oral presentation based on their experiences, findings, or as a result of their blogging. All participants should improve at least one level as indicated in the Proficiency Guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
