The Next Generation conferences link business and academic innovators

UNC CIBER’s The Next Generation conference series continues in December with “Global Private Investing,” a two-day event focused on managing global private investments and strategies to maximize return.

The conference will link leading business people and top academics to examine key issues of global competitiveness in depth.

The Next Generation series offers business people the opportunity to access the latest research findings and strategies for competing more effectively in the global marketplace. Academic participants gain keen insights into the issues and challenges business people face in markets around the world.

“The conferences play a key role in identifying trends that shape global competition and driving research that can help businesses manage and leverage those trends,” says CIBER Faculty Director Jay Swaminathan. “We work with UNC Kenan-Flagler faculty to select conference topics that are most compelling and infuse global business experience into the conversations and research agendas of our participants.”

Greg Brown, the Sarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Finance at UNC Kenan-Flagler and a conference co-chair, says: “There is a perceived gulf between the work of scholars and industry practice that hinders knowledge creation and dissemination. Conferences like this can help academics better understand the issues facing practitioners and provide industry professionals the opportunity to learn about leading-edge research by some of the best minds in finance and economics.”

Past conferences explored other areas of global competitiveness. “Innovating the Global Supply Chain” in April 2011 considered how the global supply chain is transforming the landscape of the global economy. “Brands and Branding in Law, Accounting and Marketing” in April 2012 examined the complex set of issues related to valuing, accounting for and managing brands and other intangible assets in the global marketplace and what the future may hold.
