UNC Kenan-Flagler Alumni Council
The year 2009 will go down for many as one of, if not the most, memorable in recent history. While challenges and change are ever-present all around us, I can confidently say that at UNC Kenan-Flagler, Dean Jim Dean is helping us remain focused on our mission of Shaping Leaders, Driving Results through the Schools innovative approach to leadership development.
Part of this innovative and unique approach to leadership at Kenan-Flagler involves you, our alumni, and the opportunity to share your own personal stories. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of your feedback, highlighting those leadership experiences that have allowed you to grow as leaders within your respective workplaces and communities. Our Career Advisor profiles have been growing steadily allowing for the capture of great learning experiences across many disciplines. More specifically, alumni are sharing leadership lessons, experiences dealing with change, and offering key advice. Have you shared your story with the Kenan-Flagler community of leadership knowledge yet? If not please visit the Alumni Career Advisor link of the Online Community.
During our May 2009 Council meeting, we focused on three key discussion topics:
1). Kenan-Flagler strategy
2). Kenan-Flagler branding and
3). Career-specific leadership discussions.
The Council used Alumni Career Advisor survey results along with personal experiences and insights to drill down deeper and better identify, understand, and prioritize What Makes a Better Leader across the spectrum of business disciplines. After the Council meeting, Jeff Tucker (current Council Vice-Chair), JJ Froehlich, Janet Ramsey and I continue to work with Alumni Affairs, Mindy Storrie (Director of Leadership), Dave Hoffman (Associate Dean for the MBA program), and the Dean providing them with the resulting feedback from our Alumni Council workgroups. I look forward to sharing the outcome of this work with the broader community soon.
I would be remiss not to mention all of the career services that are available to you. Whatever your need, for more information, visit the Job and Career section of the Online Community.
Please continue to stay connected and thank you for your support. You, the alumni, are our best brand ambassadors driving our reputation across the globe. We depend on you to succeed.
As always, we love to hear from our fellow alumni and invite and welcome your ideas and comments.
Bill Warren
